Michem® Prime Characteristics & Benefits
Dispersion Stability
Michelman’s manufacturing experience and expertise give rise to stable, small particle size colloidal dispersions. The dilution stability of Michem® Prime is exceptional. Dispersions diluted with soft water can remain stable at less than ten percent solids.
Repulpability
Michem® Prime is redispersible in hot alkali. It is often used as a barrier or functional coating on paper, paperboard, nonwovens and similar materials that are to be repulped.
Surfactant-free
Lower water sensitivity and greater formulating flexibility are significant benefits of the surfactant-free nature of Michem® Prime dispersions. Furthermore, these products can be tailored by neutralizing the polymer to varying degrees with ammonium hydroxide or fixed alkali.
Adhesion
Michem® Prime has excellent adhesion to metallic surfaces, glass, cellulose and other polar substrates, and exhibits outstanding adhesion to polyethylene, EPDM, polyurethane and nylon. Adhesion to many other plastics may be enhanced with corona pretreatment or another surface oxidative process.
Crosslinking
The durability of Michem® Prime coatings may be enhanced through the use of carboxylic acid-reactive crosslinking agents.
FDA Compliance
Michem® Prime is compliant with many sections of the Code of Federal Regulations. Refer to the appropriate Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for specific compliance determinations.
